Social Media Marketing . . . It’s on the Move

Yesterday, eMarketer released its updated projections on total social media marketing revenues over the next five years.  The interactive research firm estimates that US advertisers will spend an impressive $1.4 billion for ads on online social networks by the end of 2008.

In an article released by eMarketer today titled ‘Sick of Gas Prices, Shoppers Head Online’, it was revealed that the current dramatic increase in domestic retail gas prices is having a tremendous impact upon the decision of shoppers across the nation to forgo costly trips to their local mall, and choose to make convenient purchases via the Internet.

You Can Keep The Dime, Says Yahoo!

In a DMNews article yesterday titled ‘Yahoo to Eliminate 10 Cent Minimum Keyword Bid’, Ellen Keohane reported that Yahoo! will be removing this minimum requirement for its text-based sponsored search ads in the United States this week.

Yesterday, in a promising article title “Online Heads for 10% of Total US Ad Spend”, eMarketer put forth the prediction that total online advertising will account for almost 9% of total of U.S. ad spending in 2008.

AOL Steps-Up Socially with $850 Million

In an announcement this morning, AOL revealed that it is paying $850 million in cash to buy Bebo, a social networking site with more than 40 million users. While that is surely a substantial number of individuals, it’s considerably less than the top two social networking sites, MySpace and Facebook, which both have more than 100 million users world-wide.
