What Do You Have to Do for an Encore

The G-Men from Mountain View today announced a record quarterly revenue number in Q4 2007 of more than $4,830,000,000.00. That’s FIFTY-TWO-AND-A-HALF MILLION DOLLARS PER DAY during these final three months of 2007. (Or, $2,187,500.00 every hour, for those of you keeping score at home).

Ask-ing for New Direction

Today, DMNews reported that the current CEO at Ask.com, Jim Lanzone, will be stepping down, and be replaced immediately by Jim Safka, the current CEO of Primal Ventures, a new venture firm that identifies business opportunities for Ask.com’s parent company IAC Search and Media.

Search Revenue to Double to $60 Billion in 3 Years

In a January 3, 2008 article titled “Global Search Revenue on the Rise” from DMNews, JPMorgan is upping its prediction of total 2008 global search revenue from $26.6 billion to more than $30 billion. Not only is the investment firm predicting $30.5 billion in global search revenue this year, they also expect this number to reach $60 billion by 2011.

Mobile Search in 10 Things You Need to Know

A few posts ago, I brought to the forefront a prediction for the coming New Year from an industry colleague of mine, Peter Hersberg at Reprise Media, that the new gPhone from Google may be the impetus for millions of Google users to engage in the plethora of applications provided by the Internet giant, other than just searching for information.

Now, another long-time search professional friend of mine, Jeff Pruitt, EVP of Corporate Partnerships at the top-tier search marketing firm iCrossing, is also making an insightful prediction about mobile search usage in an outstanding article by Tameka Kee in the December 2007 issue of OMMA, the magazine of Online Media, Marketing & Advertising.

A New Year . . . A New Google

In a very intriguing article titled”8 Bold Predictions on Google’s Next Moves”, Stacy Collett with ComputerWorld interviewed several high profile individuals within the online search marketing industry to get their predictions on what the search behemoth is planning to conquer in the coming year. One of the most insightful responses came from a long-time industry friend of mine, Peter Hershberg, the very bright co-founder and managing partner at the top-tier search marketing firm Reprise Media.

Microsoft adExcellence Certification Program Debuted

In yet another attempt by the software shop up the road from EngineWorks to make gains on the G-Men from Mountain View, yesterday Microsoft introduced its own version of Google’s AdWords Certification program. The AdWords Certification program enables search marketing firms, media agencies, and advertisers to tout their proficiency in professionally managing Google AdWords Paid Search advertising campaigns. Now, Uncle Bill’s team has introduced Microsoft adExcellence.

Android - Google’s Open Mobile Platform

Today, Lauren Bell at DMNews reported that Google has developed, in collaboration with members of the Open Handset Alliance, a open mobile platform call Android. This introduction is touted as a software set featuring an operating system, middleware, user interface, and mobile applications that will be available through open-source licenses.

Googles Gets Social with OpenSocial

DMNews is reporting this morning that Google has released a new social platform that provides Web developers with a set of APIs for including social media enhancements into any Web site. The platform is called OpenSocial, and Google claims that it offers a centralized tool-set to simplify development and distribution of social content across the Internet.
