Communicating Success Just As Important As Achieving Success
by Sean McMahon | August 12, 2010

In an August 10, 2010 article by eMarketer titled ‘Focusing on Analytics and Accountability’, the digital marketing research firm reported that when it comes to justifying the expense of marketing campaigns, most professional marketers recognize the importance of accessing measurable results through analytical tools. However, as I read this article, the insightful nugget that glittered in my eye was the following paragraph that was ostensibly added at the end as a throw-away paragraph:

Much of this effort is directed toward justifying marketing programs, but the marketers surveyed often lacked an effective way of communicating the success—or otherwise—of their campaigns to other executives. While three-quarters of marketers begin initiatives with clear goals set out, only 56% have a system for letting company executives know how the campaign fared.
