A Skeptical View of AdWords Shift to the Left
by Sean McMahon | August 17, 2009

x-filesWe, as humans, have a tendency to seek-out a cause for every effect.  This, of unfortunately, can lead to the logical fallacy of ‘correlation equals causation’.  That is, just because a correlation exists between two phenomena, it must mean that one is the cause of the other.  It’s important to keep this fallacy in mind when asking yourself if Google’s recent decision to move its AdWords sponsored listings (from the far right side of their search engine results page, to closer to the middle of the page) was in response to the recent successful introduction of Microsoft’s newly branded search engine, Bing.

The Associated Press revealed this morning that Google posted an announcement to their blog late last night that they are allowing individuals to have access to a new version of its search engine.  That’s right . . . Google has released a new search engine.  On a completely separate Web address.  That looks exactly the same as its existing engine.  However, the G Men and Women from Mountain View claim that ‘Caffeine’ (the new engine’s code name!) uses a different algorithm to rank sites for relevant queries within its index.

EngineWorks Announces Sponsorship of International Cycling Team
by Kent Schnepp | August 7, 2009

PORTLAND, Ore. (August 6, 2009) — EngineWorks, Inc. (www.engineworks.com), a full-service Search Engine Marketing (SEM) company specializing in proven ROI-based, data-driven marketing solutions, is pleased to announce its sponsorship of an international cycling team lead by experienced road racing expert Gary Spodnick. The cycling team, which will perform under the name of ‘Team EngineWorks’, is scheduled to ride in the upcoming International Granfondo LA FAUSTO COPPI 2009 (a.k.a. La Fausto Coppi) road bike race taking place in Italy on August 30, 2009.

Team EngineWorks has been outfitted in exclusively sponsored EngineWorks cycling gear that includes coordinated racing jerseys and cycling shorts, racing sports caps, and cycling socks. Its lead rider, Gary Spodnick, recently completed a rigorous training regiment with Chris Carmichael, founder and CEO of Carmichael Training Systems, Inc., and personal coach to seven-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong.

The La Fausto Coppi is a legendary cycling race named after the famed Italian rider Angelo Fausto Coppi that originates in Cuneo, Italy. This grueling 200 kilometer road race loops its way through the daunting mountains of Northern Italy, and culminates in the central Galimberti Public Square at the original starting point in Cuneo.

Angelo Fausto Coppi, arguably the greatest cyclist of all time (second, perhaps, only to Eddy Merckx or Lance Armstrong), was the dominant international cyclist during the years on each side of World War II. His successes earned him the title Il Campionissimo, or “Champion of Champions”, as he won the Tour de France twice, the Giro d’Italia five times, the World Championship in 1953, and numerous other multi-year victories in some of Europe’s most prestigious races.

“EngineWorks is proud to be associated with an international sport and racing team that embodies many of the values we hold in high esteem,” proclaimed Kent Schnepp, Chief Strategy Officer at EngineWorks, “including hard work, dedication, focus, and achievement.” Mr. Schnepp added, “It takes a super human-powered ‘engine’ to compete at the level of our cycling team. We realize that our professional search marketing team puts forth the same level of performance for our world-class clients every day!”

Gary Spodnick, lead rider for Team EngineWorks exclaimed his enthusiasm for this sponsorship by stating, “Our alliance with EngineWorks enables our team to participate in some of the most important world-renowned races in our sport. We are privileged to represent their world-class Internet marketing services as we strive for victory in each of our events.”
