It’s not every day that one of the world’s leading resort and hospitality companies launches a new Web site. In fact, for luxury resort owner and operator, RockResorts, it has been more than two years.
At EngineWorks, we are very excited to see the culmination of our partnered work with Resort Technology Partners, a professional design and development agency specializing is custom solutions for the travel and tourism industry, be realized through this new cutting-edge Web presence for RockResorts. The new online presence features thirteen (13) new Web destinations that offer online travelers a smooth booking process, rich photographs of resort locations, and detailed travel information while they research their next vacation.
PORTLAND, Ore. (May 21, 2009) — EngineWorks, Inc. (www.engineworks.com), a full-service Search Engine Marketing (SEM) company based in Portland that specializes in proven ROI-based, data-driven marketing solutions, is pleased to announce its contribution to the enhancement of thirteen (13) all-new dynamic Web sites created by Resort Technology Partners (RTP) for RockResorts International, LLC (RockResorts).
RockResorts, owner and operator of an impressive collection of luxury resort hotels including The Osprey Lodge at Beaver Creek, CO, and the Lodge at Vail, CO, unveiled its completely redesigned Web sites on May 7, 2009. These exciting new online destinations have been designed by RTP to spotlight the world-class amenities and awe-inspiring locations at each alluring resort, and to provide an enhanced on-site experience for visitors. RTP, a Web site design and development agency specializing in services for the hospitality industry, partnered with EngineWorks to ensure that these new RockResorts sites feature proper search engine optimization (SEO) enhancements, so that they can be easily found by travelers shopping online for resort destinations.
In addition to integrating advanced optimization elements into each new Web site, EngineWorks worked closely with RTP to implement proper ’301 re-directs’ for more than 500 Web pages that existed on the previous RockResorts Web sites. A 301 re-direct is an SEO technique that informs search engine algorithms (a.k.a. “spiders”) that a specific Web page has moved permanently to a new location, and is no longer available at the prior URL. This process ensures that returning visitors, and book-marked links, arrive at the newly redesigned RockResorts pages.
EngineWorks also implemented a robust social media marketing campaign for RockResorts that features newly created social media profiles on the popular networking site Facebook.com for each destination resort. These Facebook profiles enable prospective lodging guests to directly interact with other individuals who have stayed at, or are considering staying at, a specific resort owned by RockResorts. Ultimately, this social media marketing campaign is designed to increase the volume and richness of two-way communication between RockResorts and its target audience.
“RockResorts takes pride in delivering unparalleled service and exquisite experiences to our resort guests,” proclaimed Daniel Swanson, Corporate Marketing Manager, E-Commerce at RockResorts & Vail Resorts Hospitality. “Our new enhanced Web sites convey this fact instantly,” Mr. Swanson added, “which is why we chose EngineWorks to ensure that they are easily discovered by individuals searching for luxury resort accommodations.”

The online research firm, eMarketer, released the results of a study today in an article titled ‘Banner Ads: Beyond the Click‘ that uncovered (once again) the importance of prominently positioned listings with the major search engines. This time however, the compelling reason was not as obvious as the reasons contained in most reports touting the value of having your brands featured at the top of relevant search results.
PORTLAND, Ore. (May 18, 2009) — EngineWorks, Inc. (www.engineworks.com), a high performance Search Engine Marketing (SEM) company, is pleased to announce that its co-founder and Vice President of Strategy, Kent Schnepp, will participate on a panel presentation at the up-coming Webvisions conference taking place at the Oregon Convention Center on Thursday, May 21, 2009. Mr. Schnepp will be imparting expert advise on the importance of effective Web design in the new era of social media networking during a panel session titled ‘Social Media Meets Search: Thinking Inside the OneBox’ at this exciting digital conference.
This year, Webvisions is a full three-day professional conference featuring more than fifty (50) visionary speakers who will be presenting the latest developments and advancements in Web site design and development, user experience, interactive marketing, and digital business strategy. This informative educational and social event is coordinated by Hot Pepper Studio, a Portland-based design focused studio established in 1991.
Along with several other professional search marketing veterans, Kent Schnepp will present effective strategies that enable Web sites to be included in the Google OneBox for relevant online searches. With Google’s introduction of Universal Search, top organic listings for specific searches now include blended results featuring images, maps, news content, and videos. OneBox search listings are results for search queries that can be instantly answered by Google’s algorithm or through a direct link. Typically, these results are displayed immediately below the Sponsored Links section at the top of each results page.
“The ability to have your products and services found within the major search engines is all about prime real estate,” exclaimed Kent Schnepp, “And, no other online real estate is currently more coveted than the Google OneBox on relevant result pages.”
This panel of search experts at Webvisions will convey the latest search marketing techniques, including how to establish social media profiles on popular networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube, and online local networking sources such as CitiSearch and Yelp.com, to ensure that a Web site appears in OneBox real estate.

In a previous blog post last month titled ‘Online Sales – Making Sense (and Cents) in 2009′, I purported that promoting your brand through online channels, especially search engine marketing, continues to outperform all other forms of advertising today. A new report released by TNS Media Intelligence in an article today titled ‘US Advertising Continues to Imitate a Stone‘ from eMarketer confirmed that this was if fact the case for during 2008, as well.

Each day, search engines seek to improve the Internet experience for millions of people by connecting them to information buried amidst billions of unwanted pages. On the way to reaching this weighty goal, many small enhancements are made, in which a good search marketer (which is my own goal), should keep up with.
So throughout my work weeks, I rely on Twitter to scour the web for the latest and greatest information on search engine optimization, paid search marketing, social media marketing, and general search industry news.
Of all the great insights provided by some of the brightest minds in the game, I’ve decided to share my favorites. Each week, I’ll provide the articles, blog posts, and online discussions that gave me insight into the rapidly growing search engine marketing field. This week features posts pertaining to paid search marketing, analytics, social media and link building:
When considering the validity of any information, it always prudent to consider the source. In a survey released today from TNS Media Intelligence, people today trust information they receive from Internet news sources at the same level as from television news reports and conversations with friends. The online research firm, eMarketer, reported this impressive fact today in an article titled, ‘Does Anyone Trust the Media’.
