Sliver Lining . . . Search is Shining
Posted by Sean McMahon on 03.20.2009
Encouraging news from the online marketing research firm eMarketer today. In an article titled ‘Ad Cutbacks: A Silver Lining’, four major research and publishing companies are projecting that online marketing revenues, which make-up twelve percent (12%) of the overall advertising market, will experience significant growth throughout this year.
Here are the projections for revenue growth in 2009 for the online marketing industry:
Oppenheimer and Co. +21.0%
Jupiter Research +14.8%
Borrell Associates +7.2%
Myers Publishing +2.7%
Additional good news from this article includes the fact that Myers Publishing anticipates that most of the revenue growth within the online marketing space will come from online search and display. However, it is important to point-out that the publishing firm is projecting that online video and social networks will see the greatest increase, as shown in the following chart from eMarketer.
We, at EngineWorks, are also experiencing a substantial increase in client engagements due to the fact that more and more companies are choosing to allocate more and more marketing dollars to our ROI-based, data driven advertising solutions.

I’m with Oppenheimer, at least based on the number of inquiries I’ve received in the past couple of months :). One interesting thing I’ve noticed is that larger companies tend to like PPC because it is more measurable and produces instant results, unlike organic. But if that’s what everyone starts diving into, the price-per-click is going to rise and there won’t be much money in it anymore…an interesting dilemma.
