Staying Informed of Advancements in Social Media – OneRiot
Posted by Sean McMahon on 11.18.2008‘Hi, we’re OneRiot – a social search engine that finds the pulse of the web.’

That’s the lead-in to the content on this new venture’s About Us page. And, I perceive that it sets the tone for what this new online search company is all about.
They go on to claim, “Like other search engines, we keep a running record of the contents of the Internet. However, unlike other search engines, we prioritize that information based on its current popularity with our community. This makes OneRiot’s search results relevant, fresh, friendly, and pulsing with the real-time energy of the web.”
The company, previously operating as Me.dium, ranks results based on current real-time user statistics. The newly branded site currently has a network of more than 2 million people who have downloaded an add-on or toolbar attached to their browser. This, in turn, enables OneRiot to monitor and record the search activity of these individuals.
In a DMNews article, the CEO of OneRiot, Kimbal Musk, touts the advantage of this attribute by stating, “Traditional engines batch index [Web pages], and then people can search. Real-time indexing takes content in [continuously] and enables you to search at the same time, which is key if you want to deal with fresh content.”
Interestingly, Yahoo! will provide the back-fill for searches on OneRiot. Kimbal Musk added, “If there’s something that our network is not searching for today, Yahoo will still provide long tail results.”
Here at EngineWorks, we strive to stay on top of the latest developments within all disciplines of search marketing. OneRiot is just the latest example of an advancement in our space that our team – and you – should be aware of. Let us know if you have a new item that you perceive to be valuable, as well.
