Social Media Marketing Revenues to Increase More than 5X

eMarketer released a study yesterday projecting that U.S. advertisers will increase total spending on business-to-business Social Media Marketing by more than 425% from $40 million in 2008 to $210 million in 2012.

Direct evidence that B2B social media activity is exploding can be found in the current popularity of LinkedIn. This most widely used professional social network has more than doubled the size of its audience during the past year. The real growth however, as identified in this article, is predicted to come from vertical social networks that target specific job descriptions and business categories.

For example, eMarketer reports that ITtoolbox currently has more than 1.3 million information technology professionals in its social community. Other prominent industry social networks include LawLink and Legal OnRamp (created for attorneys and legal professionals), and Reel-Exchange (established for individuals within film and video industries).
