Google Provides Insight into Customization of Search Results
Posted by Sean McMahon on 08.12.2008
Last week, the world’s largest search engine released a new feature that reveals how the company customizes search results based upon location, search history, and recent queries. In a DMNews article titled ‘Push toward transparency may have consequences for PPC’, the media corporation reported that in order for users to take advantage of this new feature, they first must manually enable it within their Google account.
One of the reasons for this new feature is to provide information to users on how the search company tailors search results to align with behavioral data stored by Google. This attempt at transparency not only attempts to allay users concerns pertaining to privacy issues, but also provides a greater opportunity for search engine marketing companies to improve the optimization efforts.
As Brian Lantz with Impaqt stated in this DMNews article, “With greater customization comes better results. The more content that’s relative to the individual’s search, the more likely they will be to stay on that site.”
Let us know if you perceive that this new feature from Google will impact your either your Paid Search Marketing campaigns or your Natural SEO engagements.
