SMX Social Media Marketing - Social Media Marketing Essentials

Greetings everyone! Currently the EngineWorks team is at the SMX Social Media Marketing conference in Long Beach, California. The weather is great here, much better then the rain/sleet/snow in Portland! I am very excited to discuss social media marketing strategies with my industry piers. Throughout the conference I am going to post reviews of each session. So visit often!
The first session of the morning is titled “Social Media Marketing Essentials” and was presented by Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz. Rand gave a great primer on social media marketing. Covering everything from why social media is important, to the types of social media marketing, to the various social media marketing strategies. Here are a few items I was able to take away from this session:
- Social Media campaigns require a high level of participation by publishers and communities.
- Social media participation is rapidly increasing. This includes blogs, micro-communities, wikis, and user generated communities (UGC).
- Google’s spam team has officially said there is nothing wrong with “linkbaiting”.
- Good content is the most important component of a successful social media campaign.
If anyone is attending the conference and would like to get together please post a comment or send me a message via my twitter account.
It’s time for the next session “Linkbait - Chumming for Traffic on Social Media Sites“. I’ll post a review as soon as possible.
