Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia Founder & Kent Schnepp at SMX Social
I had a great time at the SMX Social Media conference in Long Beach and as always, feel that the SMX conferences are incredibly valuable. Unfortunately, I had to skip part of the last day due to an early flight back to Portland. The following are my highlights from the trip:
In an article released by eMarketer today titled ‘Sick of Gas Prices, Shoppers Head Online’, it was revealed that the current dramatic increase in domestic retail gas prices is having a tremendous impact upon the decision of shoppers across the nation to forgo costly trips to their local mall, and choose to make convenient purchases via the Internet.

Only 1 hour 20 minutes until the SMX Social Media in Long Beach cocktail reception! But first, we have the keynote titled “Social Search: The Human Challengers“. I was actually looking forward to presentations from Jason Calcanis (founder & CEO, Mahalo), Steven Marder (Co-Founder & CEO, Eurekster), and Jimmy Wales (Founder, Wikia Search and fellow Objectivist) on how social interaction can improve search.

Following a great lunch at SMX Social Media in Long Beach, California it’s time for the next session “Extra! Extra! The Social News Sites” presented by Neil Patel of Advantage Consulting Services and Chris Winfield from 10e20. The majority of this presentation was on the different social news sites and their audiences. Neil and Chris discussed the following:

The next session at SMX Social Media Marketing in Long Beach, California is titled “Linkbait – Chumming for Traffic on Social Media Sites“. the presenters are Brent Csutoras of BrentCsutoras.com, Jane Copland from SEOmoz, and Cameron Olthuis from Factive Media.

The weather is great here, much better then the rain/sleet/snow in Portland! I am very excited to discuss social media marketing strategies with my industry piers. Throughout the conference I am going to post reviews of each session. So visit often!

Wow! Resort Technology Partners (RTP), a top-tier provider of software and Internet solutions for the resort, recreation, specialty retail and hospitality industries, and one of EngineWorks most valued agency partners, really knows how to throw a great party! Oh . . . and, also organize and present a phenomenal conference.
EngineWorks was privileged to be a featured Silver Sponsor last week at the Resort Automation Conference (RAC) organized by RTP. The multi-day conference, which took place in Vail, Colorado, covered a wide-range of technology and Internet topics pertaining to the resort and travel industry, including sessions on RTP’s integrated, point of sale, ticketing and e-commerce solutions to search engine marketing.
In addition to the informative conference, RTP held a wonderful 70′s Disco-themed reception complete with outrageous costumes, funky music, and disco ball! Check-out some of the super-hip pics below.
Here is a quick review of the three day event.

Michael McDermott, Senior VP of Sales & Marketing at RTP, and Kent Schnepp kick-off the 70′s Disco reception!
I had the opportunity to sit-in on several informative presentations delivered by RTP representatives. I enjoyed Kate Kunert’s demonstration of RTP’s robust content management technology. As always, I was very impressed with all of RTP’s resort and hospitality solutions.
