AOL Steps-Up Socially with $850 Million

In an announcement this morning, AOL revealed that it is paying $850 million in cash to buy Bebo, a social networking site with more than 40 million users. While that is surely a substantial number of individuals, it’s considerably less than the top two social networking sites, MySpace and Facebook, which both have more than 100 million users world-wide.

The first three months of 2008 at EngineWorks are proving to be incredibly action-packed! New client launches. Traveling and presenting. Integration of a new bid management platform. Refinement of our service offerings (more to come). And, most recently, exhibiting at SearchFest ’08 here in Portland. Unfortunately, all this activity has prevented me from providing a recap my presentation at the Online Marketing Summit (OMS) in San Diego on February 21, 2008. Now, that I have a slight break in between SearchFest (03.10.08) and SES New York coming-up next week, here is a quick review of my experience at OMS.

During our SEMpdx SearchFest ’08 on Monday here in Portland, one of the hot topics addressed by Riona MacNamara from Google Webmaster Central was the announcement that Google now has added “page load time” as a component of its AdWords ranking algorithm. This announcement was feature on Danny Sullivan’s Search Engine Land in the post titled “Google Adds Page Load Time to Quality Score Algorithm“.
