Mobile Search in 10 Things You Need to Know
A few posts ago, I brought to the forefront a prediction for the coming New Year from an industry colleague of mine, Peter Hersberg at Reprise Media, that the new gPhone from Google may be the impetus for millions of Google users to engage in the plethora of applications provided by the Internet giant, other than just searching for information.
Now, another long-time search professional friend of mine, Jeff Pruitt, EVP of Corporate Partnerships at the top-tier search marketing firm iCrossing, is also making an insightful prediction about mobile search usage in an outstanding article by Tameka Kee in the December 2007 issue of OMMA, the magazine of Online Media, Marketing & Advertising.
In this article titled “10 Things You Need to Know About Search”, Jeff Pruitt states that “search will drive mobile Internet use. This was the year of the iPhone, but most people who search on PDAs still go directly to Google, Yahoo or Microsoft instead of through carriers’ walled gardens”.
I have to agree with these predictions pertaining to mobile search from these two very bright search executives. Not only will mobile search benefit providers of mobile devices such as Google and Apple, it will also directly benefit advertisers attempting to reach the lucrative market embracing these technologies.
Let me know how see mobile search affecting ad budgets in 2008, and beyond.
