The Number One Reason to Increase Your SEM Budget

As identified by fellow search marketing professional, Kevin Lee, in an outstanding article on The ClickZ Network titled “Top 10 Reasons to Double Your Search Budget for 08″, an impressive trend occurring in business today is the fact the all other forms of marketing are increasingly driving consumers to use search engines to research and purchase products and service.

As consumers become ever-increasingly savvy and selective, they are spending more and more time evaluating their options prior to making purchasing decisions. And, more and more individuals, world-wide, are turning to the major search engines to perform their research. This means that, now more than ever, it is extremely important that your Web site be easily found across the online search landscape.

It’s important to note that, not only are traditional marketing campaigns being created to purposefully direct individuals to commercial Web sites, these campaigns are inspiring consumers to seek-out additional information through search engines. In addition, new forms of marketing, such as social media campaigns, viral marketing, blog posts, and optimized press releases, are dramatically increasing search engine usage as well.

Prominent positions within the world’s most important search engines are no longer just an after-thought to your overall marketing strategies. They are the critical link in your advertising chain. This, in my opinion, is the number one reason for increasing your Search Engine Marketing budget in the coming year.

Let me know you why you think smart marketers should increase their spend on search marketing in 2008.

I agree 100%. Advertisers are starting to wise up and shift their budgets to the web. I think the biggest holdup is a result of large conventional advertising firms benefiting from ineffective advertising. When you make 15% of a company’s ad spending it is beneficial to buy the most expensive ad, rather than the most effective one. A simplistic television commercial will make them a larger commission than an elaborate search engine marketing campaign. Companies are getting wise to this an making the shift to effective search engine marketing companies.
