Yahoo! Update Underway

In the past couple days, our SEO Department here at EngineWorks has observed an apparent major update being made to the Natural search ranking algorithms at Yahoo!. We have seen a significant improvement in positioning within the Yahoo! index for several of our clients.

Second Google PageRank Update?

Search Engine Roundtable is reporting a possible second Google PageRank update for October via several threads from Digital Point. According to our internal client tracking, there has not been any change in the PageRank reported by the Google toolbar. Could this update only effect sites which are purchasing or selling paid links? Has anyone else seen a change in there PageRank?

Update: Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Land just posted a comprehensive list of sites that have been affected by Google’s latest update.

Managing and working within Google Webmaster Tools is a vital part of all Natural Search Engine Optimization Campaigns. We have discovered that recent updates from Google have made these tools even more powerful.

Top Search Queries by Percentage
Inside Google Webmaster Tools, you can now access “Statistics >> Top Search Queries” to view the percentage of traffic delivered to your site by search query and by date range. The date range can be selected monthly for the past six (6) months, or weekly for the past three (3) weeks. This ability to customize the date range is very helpful in gaining insight into the relative strength of your referring keywords for your Web site.

Yahoo!’s Goal: The Starting Point for the Most Consumers on the Internet

Today, Yahoo! announced its financial performance for the Third Quarter 2007. This was the first full quarter in which CEO Jerry Yang has been in charge of the company since former CEO Terry Semel resigned in June 2007. Wall Street has been impressed this morning, however, the company’s stock has slumped more than 30% since the beginning of 2006.

Enhancing the Pursuit of Google

As anticipated from an announcement earlier in the month, last week Microsoft launched its major update to Microsoft Live Search. The company is touting that its search engine is “faster and easier to use”. Not to be outdone, both Ask and Yahoo! announced significant improvements to there search engines as well.

Last week, Todd Mintz, a fellow Search Engine Marketing Professionals of Portland (www.sempdx.org) board member, had an outstanding article posted to Danny Sullivan’s Sphinn forum (www.sphinn.com) that conveyed the tremendous value proposition of search engine optimization for any commercial Web site. The article titled “What is the SEO Value Proposition? – Ask SEMpdx”was posted by Scott Hendison, who is in charge of marketing for SEMpdx.
