Searching for $5 Billion This Halloween

Here’s an encouraging report that came out today from DM News reporting that this year’s Halloween season is expected to generate more than $5 billion in Halloween-related sales. According to the National Retail Federation, consumers plan to spend significantly more this year on the spooky holiday compared to last year.

The National Retail Federation reported its Halloween Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch, which gauges consumer behavior and shopping trends related to the Halloween season. The report found that the average consumer is planning to spend $64.82 on the holiday versus $59.06 spent last year, which represents almost a ten percent (10%) increase in spending.

This is very good news for online retailers that feature Halloween related items, especially online costume companies. In fact, the report found that the average person will spend $23.33 on costumes, including costumes for children and pets. Also, young adults will spend more, with 18 to 24-year-olds planning to spend an average of $34.06 on costumes, nearly twice as much as the $19.65 that they plan to spend on candy
