Matt Cutts Presentation on Whitehat SEO tips for Bloggers

by Kent Schnepp | August 13, 2007

John Pozadzides of One Man’s Blog recently posted Matt Cutts’ presentation “White Hat SEO Tips for Bloggers” from 2007 WordPress WordCamp. Matt is currently the head of Google’s Webspam team.

While the majority of Matt’s presentation covers basic SEO techniques he does touch on a couple of interesting points:

  • File extensions do NOT have an impact on search engine rankings. Just make sure they are valid Web document extensions (i.e. don’t use .exe).
  • The number of directories used in a URL does not effect Google rankings.

  1. I still think link directories are useful, althought not as much.
