Is Yahoo! Better Than Google?
August 19, 2007An interesting study was released last week claiming that consumers now express more satisfaction with Yahoo! than Google, Ask.com, MSN, or AOL. The study by the American Consumer Satisfaction index was reported in the article titled “Is Yahoo! Better Than Google?” on eMarketer.
As shown in the following chart from this article, Yahoo! has surpassed Google on the 100-point satisfaction scale in 2007.
Now, as you are aware, past performance is not necessarily an indicator of future results. However, this study reveals that many online searchers are very pleased with the results from search engines other than Google.

I would like to know more on their sample for this. How could anyone give MSN 75? If you do a search on MSN for ‘web design’ from the UK it comes up with the Google UK homepage on the first page.
I find Windows Live to be very unpredictable. Sometimes its easy to rank and somtimes you are nowhere.

Another interesting way to look at this is from a usability perspective. While myself and my colleagues mostly prefer Google, I find that most of my friends outside of the technology industry prefer to use Yahoo because they find it more usable and the results more relevant — possibly Yahoo has figured out the way to reach the masses better than Google?

Interesting from my experience having compiled and studied many relevancy tests between the top 4 search engines – Google, at the moment generally has the most relevant results, then followed quite closely by Yahoo. Maybe people like Yahoo more as a portal and prefer their other services?
